How much does your pet love your blinds, curtains or shutters?

We are often asked which window coverings are best for pets. Here’s a quick run-down of our most popular types of window coverings and how well they cope with our playful pets.

Metal venetian blinds – although slats are bendable, they are easier to damage than most other blinds, especially when you have adventurous cats.
Faux & wood venetian blinds – these are sturdier than metal venetian blinds, especially the composite faux type. Bear in mind, pet hair may collect on fabric tapes if selected.
Internal plantation shutters – more sturdy and durable especially in composite material rather than wood. They can be expensive to replace if the slats are chewed or scratched. Dirt and marks are easy to wipe away.
Roller blinds – depending on the fabric selected they are easy to wipe clean and can be rolled up away from your pets reach.
Vertical blinds – like roller blinds, especially PVC fabrics, they are easy to wipe down but it may be best to choose chainless vertical blinds. Cats and dogs and other little pets just love to chew and snap them.
Pleated blinds – are quite durable and don’t collect hair easily but can be more expensive to replace if chewed or scratched.
Roman blinds – usually made with fabric that collects hair and dust. Easy enough to brush hairs off but generally dry clean only if they are dirty. Keep the blinds in an up position as much as possible.
Curtains – so warm and inviting for pets but easily collect hair. Although generally dry clean only a fabric brush can remove most hair from curtains.

Cords and chains – if you have a pet who enjoys exploring and playing around your windows, cords can be very dangerous and pets can easily become tangled. We recommend great value, easy to wipe clean, roller blinds and chainless vertical blinds to avoid this. As a basic safety requirement, all operating cords or chains should be secured safely at a safe height from the floor to reduce the risk of harm.
